SL stood for ´Sport Leicht` or Sport Light and the Gullwing was successfully produced from 1954 until 1957. With a top speed of over 155 mph together with its striking looks the 300 SL Gullwing took the public , motoring press and the automotive community with storm. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster was launched at the 1957 Geneva Salon and Mercedes told the press. ´´The 300 SL Roadster is our response to the demand in many countries for a particularly fast, comfortable, open sports car. This Automobile offers a wide range of technical achievements for even greater driving safely and motoring comfort as well as a high standard of practical everyday value for touring in real style. Mercedes may well have been accused of being somewhat conservative in their appraisal of their new car. The Roadster would match the Gullwing`s 155 mph making it one of the fastest road cars in the World. In addition, a redesigned rear suspension layout made the car`s handling inherently superior to its predecessor. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster remains, today, a stunningly beautiful supercar. With superlative handling and blinding looks this car would grace any collection and yet remains a practical, sporting, road car. Our car was supplied new via Mercedes-Benz France; contemporary history, service and restoration records show that in 1982 the car was sold by the director of the Automobile Club de Monaco to the former racer Bernhard Consten (ex. 5 times winner of the Tour de France). Ones the car being returned to Germany in 2013 an extensive technical overhaul, both mechanical, body and chassis took place by specialist Mercedes Benz classic marque specialists. In 2014, Kienle, the world renowned 300 SL restorers completed further works to the car including a complete interior retrim and further mechanical works. In July 2015 an independent inspection report was carried out post Kienle restoration works, which also accompanies the car with various works invoices. The report awarded the highest overall score, category #1. The 300 SL has only completed a mere 2,022 since and presents in superb order. Post sales services will be completed by marque specialists prior to handover to the new lucky owner.
